Marble from Portugal is historical as it's one of the most used stones in construction. The main reason for marbles use in Portuguese monuments and sculpture works is the simplicity to polish and work the stone, whereas other stones much harder and resistant are more complicated to craft.
Geographically, Portuguese marbles can be found in the central and southern part of Portugal.
However, near Lisbon, where I took the above photo, there is also a traditional spot, at which you can find a wide range of colours of marble, from beige and grey to red and yellow.
