Waking up in the
morning, looking through the window and see snow had been one of my dreams until
last sunday, when by 4:00 am, I woke up in Krakow (Poland) and looking down from
my hotel room on a 9th floor, I saw it was snowing heavily.
Hardly could I
believe my eyes!

I made myself ready and stepped out the hotel to take photos
and let my eyes be delighted with such a beautiful scene.
Something I hadn't
seen for ages.
Despite
the low temperature, my sleepy eyes and my lack of experience with snow shots, I
could never miss that unique opportunity.

On the way to the airport, the snow
was falling so heavily that I wondered whether the airport would be closed in
the meantime. Fortunately, not.

Losing sight of Krakow
I stopped over at Munchen airport and snow was there welcoming me...

As the plane was about to take off, this snow scene was before me...

and...
two hours and 40 minutes later, a warm sunshine was waiting for me in Lisbon.
Late in the evening, as I was watching the news, it was announced that
Polish airports had been closed.
How lucky I had been, I thought!

Wow Belita, those photos are marvelous and I bet a marvelous trip away as well.
ReplyDeleteYou sure were lucky to get away when you did. Do you travel alone?
Actually, it was a very interesting trip that had an unforgettable
Deleteend. Normally, I'm a solo traveller and I like being it. Thanks, Shayna, for your visit and comment!
just lovely.... there is something very magical that happens when the snow falls, I know it's a pain down the road to clean up and when it gets dirty, but the most special moments were always stepping out into the quiet of the snowfall like you did! So glad you got to play in the fairy dust for a while. Love the shots and I can see that it was getting heavier! But seeing a plane getting 'deiced' is pretty scary for me!! Glad you are safe and sound....!!
ReplyDeleteAm wondering if it is a bit early for a usual snow there at this time of year?
You are right, Monica. During my stay over there, the temperature was low and snow had been forecasted. I heard from locals that it would be a bit unusual if snow fell.
DeleteBeautiful shots, but I just cannot share your enthusiasm. The snow came early this year and we got our share last week-end. We were lucky as our region just had a thin layer. I am not a fan of snow, but having to deal with it is the other side of the coin. Dangerous driving conditions (although the Swiss are very good with clearing it away), dangerous walking conditions even though I have good boots with a clear profile. Nice to look at, but if you have to live with it it is not fun. Although we do have Swiss citizens that cannot wait for the snow. They have the ski slopes in front of the door.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you can't share my enthusiasm, Pat! I just enjoyed the beautiful side of the coin.
DeleteA wonderful opportunity to get some beautiful shots. I am like Pat, not a big fan of snow, although the UK doesn't always get it. I had no snow in my area last winter, and hoping for the same this coming winter, too.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a good one, Mitch! Hope your wish comes true...
ReplyDelete:-) This looks quite familiar, the sbow I mean. We have winter in Norway as well, and the last days have been cold, down to - 7 C. I like winter, but October is..autumn!
ReplyDeleteVery nice pics!
These are very beautiful dreams came true snow shots. I am not surprised you flew with Lufthansa.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marcel! I always try to fly Lufthansa, my favourite airline ever...
Deletebeautiful shots.... fabulousness of snow ...Anyway often it is great to watch it only out of the window...Welcome back...
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for you! The photos are fabulous. The darkness with the glowing light makes a perfect background for the snow...
