Michiko, please accept my little token of appreciation: sour cherry liqueur served in a chocolate coffee-sized cup...
Very Portuguese!!!

Ginjinha or simply Ginja, is a liqueur made by infusing sour cherries in brandy and adding sugar and cinnamon. It's a favourite liqueur of many Portuguese and a typical drink in Lisbon and in the cities of Alcobaça and Óbidos. Ginjinha is served in a shot form with a piece of the fruit in the bottom of a small chocolate cup. Michiko, don't forget to eat your cup. It's edible!

I want to thank all of you for your excellent support to CYG.
Please, help yourself from the Ginja bottles below.
 Cheers!

Next round SATURDAY, AUG. 31 THROUGH SEPT. 5, 2013
(PS: I'll be out of Lisbon, isolated somewhere for 5 days long)

~~ Many thanks to all of you who took part in this week's FUN ~~

~~ Hope you have a great rest of the month ~~

  1. Congrats to Michiko :-))

I've never heard of Ginja before, but I like the sound of it. I like the flavour of sour cherry, and I love how it is served :-))

    1. It's natural, Mitch! It's not so international as Port wine. We easily make it at home and older the liqueur is the better it tastes.

  2. How come I didn't have Ginja while I was in Portugal?

Have a great "isolated somewhere". :)

    1. When we were having rest at a café in Obidos, I remember well having showed it to you but your order consisted of a local cookie and, I suppose, white coffee. I would never miss informing a visitor about it...
