MY LATEST TRIP: MOMENTS, TASTES, SCENES, ARCHITECTURE, PEOPLE AND MORE... #4

One day, I took a public bus at Bratislava that drove me to Hainburg, an Austria's medieval town that felt itself at the edge of the world during the decades of the Communist occupation in the neighbouring Slovakia.
As the bus crossed the border from Slovakia to Austria, I could see remnants of an old Soviet border crossing, which was now abandoned; otherwise, the border was not even noticeable.
The scenery along the road in Austria was a bit more interesting and varied - nice lush and rolling hills, fields of corn and sunflowers, and of course, the ruins of Hainburg castle perched atop the hill overlooking the medieval town. They top the hill as if they were its crown....

All the time, it was hot, despite the ever-changing sky. Sometimes, cloudy, others clear and, believe me, it even rained very lightly...
The town was nice and quaint, with its picturesque narrow streets and historical buildings, representing architectural styles from several eras, strongly fortified gates and towers that have been a symbol throughout the centuries for protection and safety..

I was told that a good number of Slovaks work in Hainburg and in other Austrian towns  because the pay is generally better and commuting to work is not hard.

Hope you enjoy the slide-show that will take you to other corners of that gateway to the Past...

~~ Have a wonderful weekend ~~

  1. Another wonderful tour, Belita. Hainburg is a beautiful town. I love the pastel colours of many of the buildings (similar to some towns near where I live), and lots of flowers!! The castle is most imposing as it sits high above the town. I had to smile at the traffic lights at the town-walls gate.

    1. I love small towns like Hainburg, perhaps because Lisbon is so different from them. Apart from the main square with its cafés and restaurants, I didn't see many people on the streets. A big difference if we think of Latin towns, where it seems people spend most of their time outside their houses. The variety and quantity of flowers made Hainburg a pretty town, indeed.
I have noticed now that the tags I added don't show up on the slideshow. Definitely, Flickr is not friendly to me...
Thanks, Mitch, for having toured with me... pleased to read you liked it.

  2. I watch this slideshow two time, I can feel the quietness in this town, like most of the central European towns.
Did you went inside Hayden's place?

Beautiful place you took me with you, thanks :)
