CREATIVE CHALLENGE: NEGLECTED

Bratislava (Slovakia)- Jewish Quarter

Good appliances can be repaired
and
Shouldn’t be disposed easily,
Good clothes can be mended
and
Shouldn’t be thrown away, carelessly,
Historical Houses neglected for years
and
Capable of being renovated to glowing health,
To be loved for another century, at least,
They should be fixed up as well,
and...
Then, we would see no more tears.

  1. Love your post Belita. A shame they are not fixed up as housing is so scarce for the many.

  2. Nicely captured and described ruined housing. I like especially you choose B&W for this image.

  3. The words and photo are fabulous, Belita. I find the death of a building very sad and even if an investor would like to save the building.....his pockets are simply not deep enough.
EXAMPLE: In the city of Bradenton where I live a hotel called the Pink Palace was built around 1920. Movie stars and VIP people occupied the rooms frequently. Over the years it became rundown and the last thing the building was used for was housing for the poverty stricken elderly. Well.....it became uninhabitable and the buliding was condemned. It has stood empty for several years and the city decided it needed to be torn down. This building has a very happy ending! A well known hotel chain, The Hamptons, purchased, then renovated it to the tune of just over 15 million dollars....grand opening is this November. Unfortunately this is the exception rather than the norm

  4. It is so saddening to see historical and ancient places falling apart.
An excellent post. I like the people in the windows.

  5. I remember buildings like that when I was a kid, memories of the last war. I find nothing like this where I live today, so I had a problem finding something neglected to photograph I like your choice of words very much.

  6. ...as does this Van Gogh-esque building on Rudnay place....

Three of its sides might make you think you're in Amsterdam....Unfortunately It is not renovated because they are not settled the possession of this property....

But in colour it seems a little bit different : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bratislava,_Rudnayovo_n%C3%A1mestie,_Slovensko.jpg
