#7 AND LAST - BRATISLAVA NOT IN A HURRY
We have already seen many aspects of the city, ranging from its monuments and architecture to sculpture and markets. Well, today, the emphasis is placed on the people and street scenes, which as many of you know, I enjoy shooting. I think that above all, people, either they are residents or not, they shape the cities, don't they?
For a fairly small city, it packs in a lot of awesomeness for someone who loves photography.
The city, like others in central and eastern Europe, has been going through a rapid and complex transformation that's very obvious wherever you wander through it. Diversity is one of the new and most evident features in Bratislava: diversity of people, diversity of lifestyles, diversity of public and private activities, diversity of commodities, advertisements, shops, goods, restaurants, food, ways of living and housing: none of which existed under the conditions of the state socialism.
An old joke emphasises the multicultural character of the city: In the morning when people went to the market, the city was called Presporok, because it was the Slovak language which was dominant at the markets. At lunch it was called Pozsony; that is when Hungarian-speaking civil servants went for lunch. And in the evening when the German-speaking theatre and opera lovers filled the city centre, it was Pressburg.
Socrates, the Greek philosopher, once said the people in the city teach me many things
Whenever I visit a city, I learn a lot...
I hope the images below are a very modest contribution to help you learn something new...
~~ Thanks for stopping by ~~
~~ Have a wonderful weekend ~~

These 7 chapters are a brilliant exhibition to understand how a city is alive :)
ReplyDeleteBtw... how many shots did you take during this travel?
Thanks, Edoardo! Your comment makes me feel happy. I take it as a reward for my job. I took 2,987 shots, I had thought to further post about other aspects such as food, shopping, house&garden, but I gave up doing it. I was afraid of bothering my friends on here and decided to put an end to the series with this blog post. Enough is enough!
DeleteUhmmm... your photo rate per day looks even higher than mine :)))
DeleteAnyway well done again!
Perhaps solo travellers easily get high daily photo rates, LOL!
DeleteYes... when I'm alone I tend to shoot much more.
DeleteAnd the more the people you are with and the less the photos you take :)
Your shots illustrate very well the urban activity of the city. You can give us the sense of the places! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, are you an urbanist?
Leonor, reading your words, I understand you got an idea about Bratislava. That was the purpose of the series. I am pleased to know that my goal has been achieved...
DeleteI have nothing to do with urban planning or anything related to communities development, either, but whenever I travel to foreign cities, my eyes are spontaneously focused on the reality of the cities where my feet stand on.
These street scenes are laden with dramatic colour. Stunning and fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gemma, for the visit and comment. I'm glad to know you liked this blog post... Dramatic or not, I love colour,,,
DeleteThe dramatic colours are not au naturel. It is work of photo editor. I am from Bratislava. Benita 's view of the city is nevertheless interesting.
DeleteYour photograph is always vivid. so beautiful. I am pleasant, being able to see the culture of a foreign country from your photograph. Have a happy weekend <3
ReplyDeleteThanks Michiko! I shoot as I see the world through my eyes and my camera. Good to read I could introduce you a tiny slice of a country and its culture, so different from yours....
DeleteThanks for this last final tour of this fascinating city. I've really enjoyed exploring it with you. I think I liked this set best, because nothing says more about a place, be it city or country, than the people. Greats shots, as always :-))
ReplyDeleteIt's always a pleasure to have nice people touring together with me. I agree with you... this is the best of the series, the reason why I intentionally chose it to be the last.
DeleteThanks for all the visits and comments!
what a variety of fashion and culture...it seems like they have gone through a real metamorphosis!
ReplyDeleteYou're very right... I wonder which metamorphosis they will go through in the near future... Thanks, Danette!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for taking me back to the city I liked .There was only one common photo ( the one man orchestra , as I call ) .
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! I don't know he was a local or a foreigner. Perhaps he lives over there...
DeleteYou're always welcome to join my tours...
