As promised some days ago, today I'm posting all the photos I took during my visit to an exhibition of unparalleled interest. Named 'Happy Consumption - Publicity and society in the 20th century', it brought together exclusively hand-painted advertising originals miraculously saved from the ravages of time and their inevitable and usual destruction.
Transport, tourism, leisure, food, fashion, toiletries, beauty products, electric appliances and cars were subject matters that expressed the reality of the political and social contingencies of this extensive period.
Advertisements for the new consumer goods - cigarettes, for instance - were frequently delivered with a touch of humour, Art Déco or an increasingly spartan modernism.
The economic expansion of the post-war period focused in particular on the radiant image of the Hollywood actresses, a veritable gallery of universal icons.
Hope you enjoy the slide-show (with background music) of many other works of this art, which are today rare and highly sought after collectors.
The unforgettable items of an era...

Thank you. That was really interesting. Even though I didn't watch the video because I am cooking dinner. The top painting is lovely in its own right.
ReplyDeleteYou're always welcome, Benni!
DeleteHi Belita!! I have been looking forward to seeing these photos. I am a little short on time at the moment, so I will return later to view the video. But just to say the photos you embedded in this post are all wonderful. At least two images there that I remember from my childhood. I'm hoping there will be more when I view the video. See you later :-))
ReplyDeleteI returned to look at your video. Wow.....so much nostalgia and memories of childhood!! So many beloved British products, too. If you had posted the video without any explanation, I would have guessed this was an exhibition in Britain!! I really enjoyed this :-))
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad to know that you have returned back and enjoyed what you saw... Sometimes, it's good to set our eyes on something that brings good memories of childhood... it's like to become child again....
DeleteThanks for re-visiting and commenting as you did..
