AN UNFORGETTABLE JOURNEY - 2ND STAGE - FROM PORRIÑO TO REDONDELA

After a good rest in a small hotel that accommodated other walkers, most of them were from Germany and Italy, I felt in good condition to go ahead with my journey, luckily under fine weather. I left the hotel, located in the centre of the town, early in the morning to avoid walking under high temperature. The town was quiet and here and there I saw other walkers/pilgrims. As I saw those, I always thought of which purpose had driven them to being on the Way: spiritual, religious, sightseeing? Perhaps a little bit of them all or just walking for the sake of walking...
I walked past fields and vineyards, through villages and forests, along streams, over Roman bridges and climbed steep, rocky footpaths.

Sections of the route followed tarmac roads, too, but there was hardly any traffic.

Walking through the forest I saw a photo in memory of a German woman. I was told that every year, the pile of tokens left by pilgrims gets so big that it has to be cleared away.
I went ahead lengthily, following arrows painted yellow on trees, stones, etc. The yellow arrows were my lodestar. Although I had some maps in my hands, I was guided by those yellow signs.
I always carried water and some fruits inside my backpack. I threw all the fruit seeds on the ground, wondering that any tree could be born there. I wondered if that tree, those fruits could feed any other walker passing through that same way.
After having passed a few hamlets, then started a steep descent that led me towards the end of this stage initially reaching the centre of Redondela.

It was very hot. I was feeling more than just tired. I felt hunger and thirst. Prior to walking up to the hotel, I stopped at a snack-bar and had a late lunch. The air conditioning inside made me feel as if I had been taken to a paradise...

Once I had my energy tank filled up, I believed that, like a car, I could 'run' and head to the hotel, somewhere outside the town. In fact, it was farther than I had expected - at least it seemed to be - but the vistas were good enough, making me concentrated on the landscape other than on the kilometres. I breathed tranquillity and nature..

I think it's enough of bla bla for today and... let me show you other images captured up to the moment I had my dinner finished. Hope you enjoy!
Thanks for joining me once again!

Let's meet soon...

~~ Have a great start of the week ~~

  3. I really liked this section of your walk, more so than the first. The countryside is beautiful and it seems much of the area has not seen too much intrusion by modern life. The photo showing the blue arrow pointing to Fatima made me look again, because it looks so similar to a road in the area where I live. The food all looked delicious. Please tell me what is that first dish? The one that looks like three long thin things.

    1. Hi Mitch! Those three thin things are nothing else but three aspargus, simply...

  9. Am sitting on the porch outside under the sunshade looking at the photos. They really suit my mood at the moment. What a wonderful walk and I am sure your camera was a happy camera. the scene of the lake must have been a cooling gift. We have out heatwave days at the moment. I hope temperatures stayed sensible for your walk.

    1. Hi Pat! I'm pleased to know that looking at the photos has suited your mood.I think my camera was happy but I didn't stop as often as I would like to take a photo, otherwise I wouldn't reach my destination scheduled for each day. Thanks for the visit and comment...

    1. Hi Edoardo! Thanks for the visit and comment dropped. In fact, you're right but the hardest time came later as the temperature soared up remarkably. Stiff climbing up gravel trails at arid areas was not easy to be endured but I didn't want to give up reaching my target...

  11. I very much enjoyed this, Belita. I admire your ability to walk for so long; I am unable to walk for longer than 4 miles and then I am quite sore the next day. Perhaps with practice I would get better. There was a pretty white small three-petaled blossom in your slide show. How interesting that I have this same flower blooming in my window sill. Here it is called "spiderwort" and is grown indoors as a houseplant.
