PRAGUE: A PLAYGROUND FOR THE EYES #1

Once upon a time, there was a woman who, since her childhood had made a wish: to take a plane and see in person the original image of the Infant Jesus of Prague. Why? Because she had grown up in her parents' where there was a beautiful figurine made out of wood with a gold leaf effect. She had travelled to many countries in four out of the five continents but, for inexplicable reasons, had never gone to Prague. With the passing of the years and the consequent ageing she realised she might regret in the future if her wish hadn't come true. So, two months ago, she set her feet on the ground of the charming and historic Prague.

Prague... such a beautiful city! The architecture is what really grabbed her. Every building a stunner. Any one of them would be a ‘wow’ moment in many other countries. Over there, they are the norm and she imagined the locals barely noticed. But she, perhaps like most of the tourists she saw here and there, loved them though.
The beautiful Old Town Square is full of stunning architecture including the Astronomical Clock that was first installed in 1410 and it’s the oldest one still working in the world.
Prague has examples of many architectural styles, from medieval times to today. The city is particularly rich in art nouveau buildings, so rich that it's hard to pick just one as a favourite.
Intentionally, the last photos of this post show the faƧade of the Church of Our Lady Victorious, where the Infant (45 cm high, equivalent to 1.47 ft) is now venerated. It was well worth a visit to see the ornate and over the top representation of the Infant of Prague in the spectacular outfits. Dressed as a king fashioned in waxed wood is displayed in a shrine. As she looked at the Infant, hardy could she believe that so many years had passed since she had started having that dream....

The main goal of her trip had been attained...

The slideshow below covers a wide range of images....

~~ I'll come back to you soon... meanwhile, have a wonderful weekend ~~

    1. Hi Mitch! It's a nice city, indeed. Now I can understand why many people refer to Prague as the Paris of Eastern.
      Thanks for the visit!

  6. Such lovely pictures. I was fascinated by the clock with its zodiac symbols and blue and gold colors. An angel with a sword (St Michael?) and a skeleton and many others. I think if I were to go there, I would spend much time in front of the clock. Thank you for showing me Prague.

    1. Hi Benni! Yesss, the clock is something very special but that place was crowded with tourists that I didn't enjoy it as much as I would like... Anyway, it was good at least to take photos and keep them as memories...
Thanks for the visit and kind comment!
