PRAGUE: A PLAYGROUND FOR THE EYES #4 AND LAST

Let's start our last day in the charming Prague with shopping or shall I say window-shopping? Actually, Prague is not the ideal city for shopping. Even though, let's get into a souvenir shop.  Perhaps you will be fascinated by the puppets that have been a favourite Czech handicraft and storytelling vehicle since the late 18th century, and they are ubiquitous in the city.

Maybe you like bright, vibrant enamel wares - probably, every Czech kitchen has at least one or two of them - or do you prefer handmade traditional corn husk made dolls?
They are cute, interesting, small and very light-weighted...
You surely know the Czech Republic is famous for the glassware and around the city we see many shops selling Bohemian Crystal cut into vases, bowls, animals, birds and other incredible designs. Mind you, it's too risky to buy and take home. As to garnet jewellery the Czech Republic is also well-known for but, I guess, you will find the prices higher than in your home country.

Do you see that absinthe store? It's different from all the others we have seen before. It seems absinthe is everywhere in Prague. Don't you think it's a bit of a tourist cliché?

From the absinthe store we are going to walk towards a boutique that from the name 'Red Boutique' we can expect woman's clothing of vibrant colours... Would you like or not to avoid looking like Rainbow Bright ?
Let's move to some nice place and have a coffee. Look, over there you see an Art Nouveau emblem of a lascivious woman... it's a cafe-restaurant... From the façade, I guess it will be expensive... However, up to you to go or not inside...

If you like Brazilian coffee, you better step into this coffee house

After the coffee break, it's time to walk again and go to a piece of Belle Epoque Prague, the shopping arcade and atrium in Lucerna Palace with David Cerny's Wenceslas Upon Dead Horse sculpture. I was about to forget to tell you the oldest movie theatre in Europe is found inside this Palace and so is a charming antiques shop.
It was beautiful, wasn't it?
If all the walking has made you hungry, there are some smart options for a quick lunch nearby. Who feels like having lunch right now? Oh, everybody is hungry... Over there there are restaurants that look good. Let's go...

I hope all of you feel ready to go ahead with our afternoon schedule.
For a change, let's take metro and see  the flea market that isn't in the city centre but in a neighbourhood in Prague suburban area.

Many ordinary people are selling some interesting junk and jewels that they no longer need...
We still have time to visit a shopping mall and, if you love trying new things, especially exotic beauty treatments, you can try a weird one, fish pedicure...
Everything has an end and our tour is not an exception. After waving farewell to the Man on the Bench (one of its feet is missing... originally like that or has it been stolen?)...

Let's head for the airport. Flights  have their departure times and airplanes won't wait for us if we arrive late for the check-in.

As always, I was very pleased to have you along with me during
all these days.

See you again....somewhere....sometime...

Thank you!

  1. Such vibrant colors!! I would like to go there and I think I would buy some crystal glass and garnet jewelry. I have heard about fish pedicures. They eat the dead skin, I think. Maybe our man on the bench lost his leg that way. Wonderful pictures! I might never leave.

  2. The artwork of those puppets is extraordinary. I would love to visit there for a holiday but would more than likely need a jet plane of my own to bring home what I would love to have. I would also need a mansion to put it all too. What a beautiful place.
Thank you for sharing your journey Belita.
    Huggles.

  3. I think there are many people of have the (mistaken) idea that many of the cities of eastern Europe are drab colourless places. I can't speak for all of them, but you have shown, through your fabulous photos, that Prague, at least, is a place full of colour and vibrancy!! I have really enjoyed this final part of your tour. The Absinthe shop is an odd place!! I have never seen a shop devoted to a single type of spirit such as this before. I have never tried Absinthe, but have read it is something you either like very much or hate instantly!! Fish pedicure is another strange thing!! I'm not sure i could do it, as it might tickle too much!! Thank you once again for letting us see this part of the world through your eyes and camera lens.

    1. Hi Mitch! I agree with you... most people have the idea that every city of Eastern Europe is gloomy... I would say that some are, others not. I have never tried absinthe, either. Even if fish pedicure were free of charge I would not like to try it. Thanks!
