WORLD POETRY DAY

In 1999, Unesco declared March 21 to be the day to celebrate poetry around the world. Perhaps some of you have already heard of Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935) one of the greatest poets in the Portuguese language.

On this special day, I would like to introduce to whoever stops by, one of his poems...

“To be great, be whole;
Exclude nothing, exaggerate nothing that is not you.
Be whole in everything. Put all you are
Into the smallest thing you do.
So, in each lake, the moon shines with splendour
Because it blooms up above.”

Famous cafe ‘A Brasileira’, in Lisbon, is a real tourist attraction. Poet and writer Fernando Pessoa once was a regular customer.The bronze sculpture of Portugal’s famous  Pessoa (1888-1935), is very popular among tourists, namely.

Pessoa spent a lot of his time in cafes (like Cafe Martinho da Arcada), where he wrote and drank a lot . He died in 1935, aged 47.

Outside the café that was founded in 1782, there is seating with brilliant views of the plaza and the people there.

~~Thanks for stopping by~~

  1. Dear Belitaaaaa :)))
    I recently watched a movie "night train to Lisbon". All the memories in Lisbon came back to me. I always say to people; Poutugal has poetry in the air.
    I felt it during my youth; and I feel it the same now.
    I like this post. :)
