As I was strolling throughout a modern neighbourhood in Oporto, I happened to find a public wash-house that I have no idea whether or not it was still being used by the locals. I don't think so... nowadays, washing machines are a must in every household. However, perhaps sometimes people use it to get something washed that is not recommendable to be done in a machine.
I have no idea what happened in other countries, but wash-houses were something like the 'Facebook in the Past'. Women gathered there not only to get their laundry washed but also to gossip about all and nothing...
Another thing that captivated my eyes was the drinking fountain made out of cast iron as it was common in the old days.
