MY LATEST TRIP: MOMENTS, TASTES, SCENES, ARCHITECTURE, PEOPLE AND MORE... #2

ESLOVAQUIA - PIESTANY-002

On the way to Piestany, a spa town located in the western side of Slovakia, I had not expected to see a nuclear power plant around a village, whose land is rich and extensively farmed. The huge cooling towers looming over that peaceful scene caught me by surprise as I totally ignored that the country had invested in nuclear reactors that date back to the Soviet era.

Some kilometers farther and, in stark contrast, the spa town of Piestany was far and beyond my expectations. Its beautiful parks full of trees, colourful flowers, fountains, many hotels and the tranquil River Vah flowing through the town, make this a very charming and inviting place to anyone who loves nature, serenity and architecture.

Perhaps you're wondering what Piestany is famous for... the characteristics of its water, including the temperature (+65ºC / +149F) make it being Slovakia's most famous spa and one of the most well-known spas in Europe, enticing thousands of people every year with its unique health resources: Piestany water is unique and is indicated for a wide range of health problems from chronic cystitis to  degenerative rheumatic diseases. Consequently, it's not surprising that the big statue of a man breaking his crutch (pictured below) is the symbol of the town.

HOPE YOU ENJOY THE SLIDE-SHOW...

  1. Hi Belita!! When this post appeared in my reading list yesterday, I came to look but found a message saying "the post you are looking for does not exist", so I assumed technical problems. I can see it again today, but am just about to leave for work, so I will look and comment when I get home this evening.

    1. Hi Mitch! That happened because after publishing the post I had to revert it to draft for some time. The slideshow was not working properly. Recently, I've had problems with Flickr whenever I want to post a slide-show. Even the above is not satisfactory to me as it doesn't slide from the first image. Thanks for your quick visit, anyway. Hope you have a nice day of work...

  2. Hi Belita. I have returned for a proper look at your post. I must say, I don't think I would like to live in the shadow of a nuclear power-station. Piestany itself is a beautiful town. So many elegant buildings and lovely parks and flower-beds. I really enjoyed your photo-tour.

Sorry to hear you're having problems with Flickr slideshows. I've not experienced any problems myself.
