#2. BRATISLAVA NOT IN A HURRY
Let's start by walking through the steep, narrow streets and give a look at the city's most famous landmark,
Bratislava Castle.
An area of the city seen from the Castle. In front is the old city, behind are new commercial buildings and...
... the New Bridge across the Danube River and its UFO restaurant. Many historic structures were demolished when the Communists built the Bridge. In the far distance a large group of apartment blocks typical of the Communist era.
Leaving the Castle behind...
... we see St. Martin's Cathedral. The Kings and Queens of Hungary were crowned in this Cathedral for 250 years. The Cathedral is currently under restoration works.
But, Bratislava is much more than the Castle and the Cathedral...
Enjoy the slideshow and you will see the images of many other interesting monuments scattered throughout
the Old Town.
~~ Have a great weekend ~~

What a great place. I love the orange roofs. So sad people knock down beautiful old buildings to put up ugly new ones. Thank you for taking me along.
ReplyDeleteBratislava is a nice city and not very much discovered by tourists in general. The colour of the roofs is really interestingg but not interesting at all seeing how a part of the city had to be demolished to give birth to what some would valll modernisation. It was a pleasure to have you going on this tour together with me...
DeleteA beautiful city, full of wonderful old buildings and architecture!! Your photos show it off to perfection. Thanks for the tour :-))
ReplyDeleteThe blog to be posted soon is going to emphasise the city's architecture. Mitch, you are always welcome!
DeleteThanks for taking me on the tour Dear Belita .
ReplyDeleteI'm always pleased to have you touring with me, Fatos!
DeleteI like this "not in a hurry" way walking any city. :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly telling you, I prefer southern Europe, (maybe cause I once lived there).
Very nice walk with you, Belita, I wonder why people praying outside of the chapel? they were not allowed to get in? or cause they were not dressed up properly?
And I think you have a thing with either people's feet or shoes. :)
Southern Europe has nothing to do with those East European countries. Culture, people, landscape, etc, all in all, very different, but it's nice to see the differences, to feel them and diggest them as we want. People were praying outside the church because there was no room inside. It was very crowded. My purpose of adding people's feet and shoes was to convey to viewers that all could be reached by walking and not by taking a bus or a tram. Reading your words, I realize my goal was not achieved....
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, interesting buildings and many ornate and colorful. I see many are in need of some much needed TLC.
ReplyDeleteThe blue and whote Chapel at the end was quite stunning
Like Sophie....I thought you had a fascination with shoes... ( I might now be disappointed you don't have a 'kinky fetish' lol!!!
Thanks, Linda, for your visit and words. Of course, I've a 'kinky fetish' but not shoes, feet, either. Can you guess what s it?
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Belita, I must say though I prefer the old city.
ReplyDeleteOh at last I saw Bratislava... not in a hurry :-D
