INLAND PORTUGAL #1 - PINHEIRO DA BEMPOSTA

How often we happen to revisit places in which we have not been for ages and get amazed with the changes for better or, in some cases, for worse!!! Well, I was very happy this month when I decided to be out of Lisbon for some days, and all I saw was beyond my expectations.
I took a train to Aveiro where I changed to another and reached my destination. From Lisbon to Aveiro, there was one single stop at Coimbra - famous for its University that was established in 1290 and so one of the 30 oldest universities in the world -, giving me the chance to take the photo below.
Aveiro is a city crossed by canals, which give it quite an individual character, not to mention the elegant boats painted with bright colours.
The railway station is located at this square,,,
My destination...
I was curious to walk along one of the legs of the central route of the Portuguese way  of  St. James. so my first day was entirely spent in the old town that I knew was worth revisiting.
On my wanderings I happened to meet a young lady from Slovakia who told me she had been walking from Fatima and was on the way to Santiago de Compostela. She was very cheerful... we had an enjoyable conversation at a small café at which walkers normally stopped, so the owner told me.
The town is crossed by the former main road from Lisbon to Oporto. On one side we see the past and on the other, the present days being prepared for the future times.
The town's barber shop. Outside, a few pieces of furniture that equipped the business of the current owner's shop. Good idea, the today's barber has had...
As the soil is fertile, many varieties of flowers, vegetables and fruit dot the landscape, all making the town naturally colourful.

I would be pleased if you felt like joining me and see further below...

~~ Thanks for visiting ~~
~~ Have a wonderful weekend ~~

  3. Thank you so much for taking me along. I see there is indeed a place for people to do their wash. I was most interested in the many plants: pears and figs, tomatoes and lovely flowers. Aviero is a beautiful town, many parts don't seem to have changed in centuries.

  5. All beautiful but the one that stood out for me was the box sign on legs. Amazing! I was also thinking there can't be that many cars there as the roads are so narrow and clean. The peace and quiet must be deafening. lol

Have a lovely weekend Belita, it is always to see you again.
    Huggles.

    1. Hi Shayna! Your observation is perfect. Aveiro is not hilly at all. The city has a free bicycle borrowing service called BUGA.You simply hand the BUGA shop assistant your ID and if there is a bike free you can borrow it for the day at no cost....
Thanks for the visit and comment...
