MY FEET WERE MY VEHICLE #4

The Camino is that way...

The trail went through an area that's characterised by mushrooms. I came across these parasols...

The images you see on here were taken on easy days. I mean, apart from the length of the route, it was easy under foot and there were no long steep accents or descents. The Spanish call this section the “leg breaker” not due to the surface, but due to the length.

Many people on the Way stopped and talked to me, but I found that if I walked with someone else, I would be concentrated not on the surrounding beauty, but on having a conversation. So I usually would just send them onwards with a wave and a smile, preferring instead to have my part of the trail to myself.

One thing that really struck me as I walked was how fast everyone was going. Many people only had a defined amount of time to either complete the entire walk, or to complete one stage of it. It seemed a bit competitive as well, and people´s conversations were often about how much one was carrying, and how light their load was; how fast someone was; and so on. Hardly did anyone talk of interesting subjects, historical things along the way. Rarely did anyone seem to stop and relax, or breathe in the absolute beauty of the countryside. I found this somewhat astonishing.

A XIV century cross, one of the finest in Galicia
The most interesting cafés on the Way.
One was called A Paso de Formiga (At ant's pace). Located in a small village of the Way, it was a perfect place to stop for a break. I presume its wonderful giant ant sculptures surprise any wayfarer...

The other, the Casa Domingo, a former home of farmers, was nestled in a peaceful valley of very mild relief...

Again I enjoyed birds chirping in my head ...

  1. Wonderful birds!! I, too, often find that when I am walking, people are talking with each other, or on their mobile phones. They are not enjoying the beauty, it is a pity.

    1. Hi Benni! Perhaps their understanding of beauty is different from ours...

  3. Yet again I have enjoyed accompanying you on another leg of your journey. I agree with you about conversation while walking or hiking. This is why I usually got out on walks or go on photographic trips by myself. On the rare occasions I walk with someone else I am usually too busy admiring and/or photographing the scenery to take part in conversation. I also agree with you about rushing things. I prefer I slow pace so that I do not miss anything. As always I love all of your photos, particularly of the 'Ant' cafe and it's sculptures and also th birds of many varieties. I also had to laugh at the photo in the gallery of the cats watching the birds. One thing I have to ask.....did you have problems with your camera on this trip? The reason I ask is that some of your photos are not quite as sharp as you usually produce.

    1. Hi Mitch! You are right... Once I fell down with my camera... the fall may explain the reason for the lack of sharpness...furthermore, the humidity in the atmosphere was really high, even when the sun was shining...
Good to be followed by you... thanks!
