Spring had already arrived at a small village where David, a teenager boy, lived with his family. One day, on the way back home from school, he stopped to pick flowers from a field. He picked one, two, three and one more...
Suddenly, he saw Miriam, a classmate he fancied very much. Apparently, it seemed that she was walking in his direction. As she was approaching him very slowly, he began to address her but she didn't appear to know him. He entreated her only to accept the flowers from him, but she raised her circle face up a little and... turning away her head, she fastened her pace and continued on her way.

David remained there standing for a few minutes, with not very cordial feelings about Miriam. Had she made him feel insecure in his masculinity? Maybe, maybe not. I, who had been watching them, unnoticed, could hear him muttering to himself something that sounded like "Oh, she's a conceited girl!"

PS. The needlework pictured above makes part of my life. I grew up looking at it very often. It was stitched by my grandmother and nowadays I have it on a wall in my flat. I remember well, as a child, looking at that girl and thinking how conceited her attitude was.
