OPORTO IS A DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS CITY

Of course, this dog was seen in Oporto. He is in a blue shade and white colour that are the emblematic colours of Porto Football Team... Oporto people are really obsessed and somehow fanatic of their team which they consider an important part of their lives.

A tea-room with a view...

Mr. Cricket is placed before Oporto Students' Association, waking up their consciences to their duties....

A second-hand bookshop that's very popular among local students...

A historic meeting-place for bohemians and artists...

Two gates that originally belonged to the first hospital in the City.

Overpass in a residential area...

This bronze monument honours Porto people (Tripeiros) which according to legend gave their meat to the ships leaving for Ceuta and were left with the guts of the animals creating the traditional meal “Tripas à Moda do Porto”.

Windows of a restaurant that serves typical Oporto dishes...

The Brazileira. one of the most iconic and beloved cafés of the city of Oporto. Founded in 1903, the Brazileira was the first franchise of coffee houses in Portugal...

The Palladium Building is one of top 10 architectural buildings in Oporto. It's now the building that gives roof to the French bookseller FNAC and to the British C&A department store.

The house where the Portuguese cellist Guilhermina Suggia lived. She studied in Paris with Pablo Casals, and built an international reputation. She also spent many years living in the United Kingdom, where she was particularly celebrated. She retired in 1939, but emerged from retirement to give concerts in Britain. Her last one was in 1949, the year before her death.

OPORTO IS A DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS CITY - 2018/10

The Bolhão Market is the most famous in the city and in 2006 it was classified as a place of public interest. Dating back to 1850, with a singular structure with two floors, it is characterised by  its neoclassic architecture. Visiting Oporto implies visiting the Market...

OPORTO IS A DROP DEAD-GORGEOUS CITY ~2018/9

As I was strolling throughout a modern neighbourhood in Oporto, I happened to find a public wash-house that I have no idea whether or not it was still being used by the locals. I don't think so...  nowadays, washing machines are a must in every household. However, perhaps sometimes people use it to get something washed that is not recommendable to be done in a machine.
I have no idea what happened in other countries, but wash-houses were something like the 'Facebook in the Past'. Women gathered there not only to get their laundry washed but also to gossip about all and nothing...

Another thing that captivated my eyes was the drinking fountain made out of cast iron as it was common in the old days.

OPORTO IS A DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS CITY - 2018/8

Do you like birds? Then, if you happen to be in Oporto on a Sunday morning, don't miss a visit to the Bird Fair. Even if you don't buy one bird, you will enjoy listening to a unique symphony played without a conductor but in a colourful environment...

OPORTO IS A DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS CITY - 2018/3~7

Oporto is a starting point for the Portuguese Way of Saint James. The yellow arrows/scallop shell indicate the direction walkers have to take in order to reach their final destination.

Sometimes, people need to stop and meditate...
There's nothing else better than doing it in front of the Ocean...

Oporto is a city known for its camellias...
I would not exaggerate if I said there is no garden
without a camellia tree...

A private mansion with an elegant staircase..

A hand-painted mosaic panel
that can be seen at the entrance
of the newly inaugurated House of Architecture,
the facilities of which are the result
of the remodelling of a former wine company.

OPORTO IS A DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS CITY 1/2018

A mural that is a tribute to the aged population of an Oporto neighbourhood...
